With his Nike contract now at an end, top US athlete Alan Webb could soon be retiring from the track to take up triathlon, according to various sources.

Webb reportedly told Sports Illustrated writer Tim Layden that he is “burned out” from running, adding: “I am serious about triathlon. I am in Arizona working with a USA Triathlon group right now.” His retirement from running was confirmed to Runner’s World by his agent Ray Flynn.

Before bursting on to the US athletics scene as one of the best 1,500m runners on the planet, Webb was a promising age-group swimmer. His final track race is widely expected to be the Millrose Games meet in New York City next month.
