Shimano recalls road brake discs
Models sold after Feb 2012 believed to be affected
Amid the pizzazz of Eurobike, Japan’s Shimano has taken the precautionary measure of recalling some mechanical disc brakes for road bikes, citing safety concerns over the callipers.
The disc brakes affected are models BR-CX75, BR-R515 and BR-R315, sold after February 2012.
The company will be replacing customers’ existing callipers with improved ones at no charge.
Shimano failed to respond to a 220 request for more information on the nature of the problem, but said in a released statement that no injuries have been reported so far.
Owners of Shimano mechanical disc brakes for road racing bikes are advised to visit their local dealer to have the callipers checked and if necessary replaced.
