Sean Conway continues iron challenge beyond 102 days
He may have broken the record for the most iron-distance triathlons completed on consecutive days, but it looks like Sean Conway isn't done yet...
Yesterday (21 July), Sean Conway completed his 102nd iron-distance triathlon in 102 days to break the previous record for the most long-distance triathlons completed on consecutive days.
He finished his 102nd triathlon in a time of 14 hours and 51 minutes, with crowds gathered to join him on his final day and celebrate such an incredible achievement.
However, it seems that Sean is not quite done yet… Early this morning, a familiar face popped up on Instagram as he once again returned to Mold Leisure Centre, near Wrexham in North Wales.
The challenge continues
Speaking to the camera, he said: “You didn’t think I was going to stop, did you? You know what? Up until yesterday, I had to do them.
“Now I want to see if I can cope doing them when I don’t have to do them. So we’ll see. I don’t know. My legs might be like, nah!
“Yesterday was the second best day of my life. Yesterday was amazing. I’ve got no words. Thank you everyone that came out… it was incredible.
“Today is a new day, something different. Let’s see if I can actually do this without having to do it.”
Just how many more Sean might do is unclear at this point, but it’s something that was clearly pre-planned given the fact that he was wearing a swim hat with 103 on it this morning.
His support team and a few of the regular support riders were also clearly aware, with several cyclists waiting for him at the start of the bike.
The move is reminiscent of what the Iron Cowboy did when he set the previous record, initially doing 100 iron-distance triathlons before deciding to do one more.
Sink or swim
As he was getting ready to head out on the bike on day 103, Sean shared another update. “Swim done. I’m a little hungover, if I’m honest, and I swam well.
“It’s going to be interesting to see how I do this with no pressure. I’ll either thrive or just bonk. Off on the bike now. Some of the regulars are out already, because they knew about this, so let’s go.”
