Scotland picks five triathletes for Commonwealths
David McNamee, Marc Austin, Grant Sheldon, Natalie Milne and Seonaid Thompson to carry Scottish hopes in Glasgow next month
The hosts of this year’s Commonwealth Games have finally named their triathlon team for next month: David McNamee, Marc Austin, Grant Sheldon, Natalie Milne and Seonaid Thompson will lead Scottish hopes in Glasgow next month.
McNamee’s selection was confirmed last October thanks to his three top ten finishes in the 2013 World Triathlon Series, while the other names were only confirmed earlier this morning (at the same time as the England triathlon team).
Flatmates and World Junior Triathlon medallists Marc Austin and Grant Sheldon complete the men’s triathlon team for Team Scotland. Out of the women, Natalie Milne is three-time Scottish Sprint Triathlon Champion, while Seonaid Thompson is the 2012 British Triathlon Super Series Champion.
The team will all race as individuals on Thursday 24 July, and then two days later four of them – two men and two women – will team up to compete in the mixed relay, a first for the Commonwealth Games. Both races happen at Strathclyde Country Park.
Squads have now been announced by England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada.
220 Triathlon will be at Strathclyde Park next month to cover all the action live on Twitter and the website. Watch this space!
