New triathlon festival for Dorset

Lord Shaftesbury planning Grand Shaftesbury Triathlon and Run Festival for May 2015

With the backing of keen runner Lord Shaftesbury, a new triathlon festival is being planned for his 6,000-acre country estate in Dorset next May.

The Grand Shaftesbury Triathlon and Run Festival will take place on 15-17 May and feature a mix of open water swimming, triathlons, running, camping, live music and food together with kids’ activities. It culminates with the popular Grand Shaftesbury half marathon and 10k which have been run on the estate for the last four years.

“With almost 6,000 acres of land and some great cycling routes in the area we have the perfect venue to host a weekend festival dedicated to triathlon and running for all ages and all abilities,” said Lord Shaftesbury, who has completed a number of ultramarathons around the world including the 4 Deserts Race and Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc.

The Saturday will be dedicated to triathlons with novice, sprint, Olympic and children’s races being organised, and a dramatic finish in front of St Giles House. Running will be the focus of action on the Sunday with the traditional half marathon, 10k and children’s run.

Entries are now open for the event with full details at http://trytri.co.uk.
