New Ironman for the Emerald Isle

Dublin to host 70.3 race in August 2015, which could potentially be expanded to full Iron-distance the following year, say organisers

Tall ship docked in Dublin

Following the closure of Ironman 70.3 Galway last year, Ironman has found another purchase in the Emerald Isle – this time in Dublin, which will host its first Ironman 70.3 race in August 2015.

The Ironman 70.3 Dublin triathlon will consist of a 1.9km swim in the Irish Sea south of Dublin City, a 90km bike course through the stunning countryside around Dublin and then a 21.1km run in the heart of the city. Organisers hope to expand it to full Iron-distance from 2016.

One of more than 70 events in the global Ironman 70.3 Series, the Ironman 70.3 Dublin triathlon will have a $15,000 professional prize purse and will be a P-500 race. The race will also offer 30 age-group qualifying slots for the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Full details of the race will be available later this summer – watch this space.
