Marc Austin picked for Scottish Athlete of the Year

triathlonscotland award given in recognition of 2013 medal haul

Commonwealth Games hopeful Marc Austin has been named Athlete of the Year by triathlonscotland, in recognition of an “outstanding” season.

Austin’s 2013 medal haul includes silver at the ITU World Junior Championships in London last September, along with a clutch of bronzes and one gold at ETU races, and two bronze medals at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival last January.

The complete list of winners at the triathlonscotland awards, which were held in Glasgow’s Emirates Arena last weekend, runs as follows:

Young Volunteer of the Year: Matthew Cutajar (GRC Triathlon)

Volunteer of the Year: Gerry Moy (Lomond Masters Triathlon Club)

Coach of the Year: Andrew McMenigall (Edinburgh Triathletes)

Officials of the Year: Robert Ovens (GRC Triathlon), Drew Matheson (West Lothian Triathlon) and Robert McCulloch (Lomond Masters)

Most Enjoyable Event of the Year: Balbirnie Park Duathlon (Glenrothes Triathlon Club)

Event of the Year: Solstice Triathlon (Pentland Triathletes)

Athlete of the Year: Marc Austin (Fusion Triathlon and triathlonscotland Squad member)

Age Group Athlete of the Year: Joyce Mark

Club of the Year: Edinburgh #3

Outstanding Contribution: Bert McIntosh (Fleet Feet)

In related news, Aileen Reid was named Irish Athlete of the Year by Triathlon Ireland members at a separate awards dinner in Dublin last weekend.
