Kraichgau sticks with Challenge

Local mayors spurn Ironman

The Kraichgau triathlon in Germany will definitely be held under the Challenge Family banner from 2015, after eight local mayors voted in favour of a long-term partnership.

The mayors of the eight municipalities affected by the race were reportedly dissatisfied with the recent sale of the Kraichgau triathlon to WTC by organiser Björn Steinmetz, and voted unanimously to return it to the Challenge Family.

The eight mayors said in a joint statement: “We are convinced this decision is in the best interests of both the athletes and the many volunteers, without whom this great event would not be possible.”

It is currently unclear whether the Kraichgau triathlon will run under the Ironman brand in 2014, with WTC yet to confirm its intentions for the race.
