Kona 2014: the Strava files

One for the data geeks – check out these readings for four Kona athletes including second-placed male pro Ben Hoffman and GB age-grouper Dan Cole

With Ironman Hawaii done and dusted, we turn our thoughts to the stats…

We’ve been sent selected Strava data for pro athletes Ben Hoffman (who finished second), Ronnie Schildnecht (12th) and Christian Kramer (DNF), as well as GB age-grouper Dan Cole (171st in the M40-44 category).

Ben Hoffman (USA)

Hoffman covered the 42km run in 2:51:33, maintaining a pace of 4:04/km and burning 3,758 calories in the process. Full Strava data here.

Dan Cole (550th overall)

The British age-grouper averaged a pace of 1:44mins/100m across the 3.8km swim in Kaiua Bay, and on the bike his max speed was only just behind Kramer’s. Run data is unfortunately incomplete, but it looks like he was averaging 5mins/km before his batteries ran out.
