Jonny Brownlee joins stellar line up of both Ironman and ITU stars racing for the $1m prize purse at Challenge Daytona
2012 ITU World Champion and silver and bronze Olympic medal winner Jonny Brownlee has confirmed he will join fellow Olympians Javier Gomez and brother Alistair on the start line of the PTO 2020 Championship. The athletes will race over a 100km distance at Challenge Daytona in December.
Other ITU stars also racing for the $1 million prize purse, split equally between men and women, include Vincent Luis, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Kristian Blummenfelt, Nicola Spirig, Gustav Iden, Flora Duffy, and Jessica Learmonth.
They will be competing against the top 40 men and 40 women in the PTO World Rankings, which include Ironman stars Jan Frodeno, Daniela Ryf, Lucy Charles-Barclay and Lionel Sanders in what promises to be one of the most exciting races ever.
Jonny Browenlee said: “I am really pleased that I have been awarded a wildcard slot for the PTO 2020 Championship and look forward to racing at Daytona. The championship field is stacked full of big names from short course and long-distance racing, so it’s going to be tough, but I am looking forward to testing myself over that distance. It’s great to see the PTO and the professionals all come together for this event and I’m delighted to be involved.”
