Ironman has added an extra $50k to the prize pot for this year’s 70.3 World Championship finals in Mont-Tremblant, Canada, bringing the total on offer to $250k.

The purse will be shared among the top 10 elite male and female finishers out of a field of around 2,000 athletes racing at the finals this September.

Around 150,000 athletes are expected to be involved in the worldwide 70.3 series this season, which involves more than 70 events being held in locations as diverse as Australia, Brazil, Malaysia and South Africa.

Triathlon’s biggest prize purse however remains the $650k offered at the full-distance Ironman World Championship finals, taking place in Hawaii this November.
