Duathletes prepare for Morpeth Duathlon

World Sprint Duathlon qualifier set for Easter Monday

The Morpeth Duathlon is set to take place on Monday 1 April 2013 representing the second opportunity for age-group duathletes to book their place in the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2013 Ottawa ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships in August later this year.

The event takes place in the market town of Morpeth and hosts an opening run course of 5.5km that takes competitors through the town centre ensuring spectators can cheer friends and family off to a fast-paced start before they wind their way through Carlisle Park. The 29km bike route takes athletes out through the spectacular Northumbria countryside, before a fast descent back into Morpeth for the final two-lap 3..5km run route.

The event is the second chance to qualify for the Great Britain Age-Group Team after the Clumber Park Classic Duathlon was rearranged to the 11 May following the recent heavy snowfall.

For duathletes intending to qualify at the Morpeth Duathlon, you must register your intent to qualify on the British Triathlon website by 5pm Friday 29 March 2013.

Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age-Group, added: “The Morpeth Duathlon will see age-group duathletes embark on a challenging course as they aim to book their place in the Great Britain Age-Group Team for Canada. Morpeth is an exciting venue with town centre racing, making it a great experience for competitors and spectators alike..”

The event is being organised by VO2 Max Racing Events, with more information available on www.vo2maxracingevents.co.uk
