Cholmondeley Castle Tri preview

Castle Series heads to Cheshire this weekend for 2014’s second date of racing

Over 1,300 triathletes of all abilities are looking forward to a weekend of multisport action on Sunday 29 June at the Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon.

Up for grabs is not only the prestigious Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon title, part of the Castle Triathlon Series, but also a prize fund of close to £2,000 for the Olympic distance and The Gauntlet Half-Iron distance triathlon.

Chief threat in the men’s field is Joe Skipper. The 26-year-old is a former British Middle Distance Champion and Skipper announced himself on the international scene last year with a third place at Ironman UK. Showing some form this season already, Joe comes to Cholmondeley hot of the back of a recent win in Wales.

Joe Skipper said: “I’m really looking forward to the race and taking on a strong field and seeing where my fitness is. My goal on race day is to win and have a good time doing so.”

His main opposition is likely to be fellow pro Joel Jameson. Jameson is a former Outlaw Triathlon winner and competes professionally on the Ironman circuit. This isn’t the first time he has raced Joe Skipper and he will be looking to avenge his narrow loss at Ironman UK last year.

Joel Jameson said: “I’m really looking forward to racing on British soil in a well-run professional event. It’s tempting to just say I want to race hard to get the final hard brick session in before a big race I have lined up in Germany but if I’m being totally honest, I’m here to win!”

The Cholmondeley title will not be given away, with pro triathletes on the startline including Paul Hawkins, Sam Wade and Ross MacDonald.

The women’s title is looking no less competitive, with Olympic distance specialist Cat Jameson flying in from a successful tour in the U.S where she has recently won a major title.

Cat will be taking on a couple half-iron distance specialists in the form of Georgie Rutherford and Eleanor Haresign – whilst also in the mix are some very fast women including India Lee, Nicole Walter and Linda Evans.

Last minute entries are still open for all the races at the Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon online: http://www.castletriathlonseries.co.uk/the-series/cholmondeley-castle
