The Challenge Family triathlon series will head to Melbourne, Australia this weekend, with more than 1,400 competitors expected in the home of long-running soap ‘Neighbours’.

The event will start just before sunrise at Brighton Beach with a 1.9km sea swim, followed by a 90km bike and finishing with a 21km run along a new route that now takes in inner-city Melbourne (though Ramsay Street is definitely off the cards).

The men’s field features several leading Australian athletes including two-time Challenge Copenhagen champion Tim Berkel, last year’s Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific champ Chris Kemp, and Clayton Fettell.

The women’s field will include Swiss athlete Caroline Steffen and Australians Rebecca Hoschke (current Ironman Australia champion) and Annabel Luxford.
