British champs return to Liverpool
Over 1,500 athletes expected in 2014
The British Triathlon Championships will return to Liverpool in 2014, with over 1,500 athletes expected to compete next August against the backdrop of iconic sights like the Albert Dock, Echo Arena and the Liver Building.
Describing last year’s event as one of the highlights of the city’s sporting calendar, Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “It’s fantastic news that this sporting event is returning to the city again in 2014.”
The event will include the British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships (with spots to be won on the Great Britain Age-Group Team), the British Elite Championships for youth, junior and senior triathletes, and the British Paratriathlon Championships.
This year’s elite races were dominated by Australia, with wins for Charlotte McShane and Brendan Sexton. First British athletes across the line were Emma Pallant and Callum Johnson.
