With the Commonwealth Games now just weeks away, top GB triathletes including 2012 Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee will be heading to the ETU European Triathlon Championships in Kitzbühel, Austria next weekend.

Also included on the elite men’s team is English athlete Matt Sharp, who won the elite sprint distance at Blenheim Palace Triathlon last weekend, and Scottish athletes David McNamee, Marc Austin and Grant Sheldon. The elite women’s team counts just two names – Holly Lawrence (already named for the Welsh team at Glasgow 2014) and England’s Lois Rosindale.

The junior men’s team is comprised of Luke Penney and Alex West, while the junior women’s team includes Sophie Coldwell – who came third overall at Blenheim last weekend despite starting in the junior wave – Sian Rainsley, Sarah Hodgson and Kate Curran.

The ETU European Triathlon Championships are being held on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June, and will be one of the last chances for Commonwealth athletes to race before Glasgow next month. Brownlee previously won the 2011 European Triathlon Champs in Pontevedra, Spain (pictured).

Wales and Northern Ireland have already named their tri teams for Glasgow, while announcements from England and Scotland are expected any day – more news as soon as we have it…
