Ali Brownlee clocks 28:32 10,000m

GB’s Olympic champ comes second at American track meet

Alistair Brownlee posted a 28:32min 10,000m time at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational Track Meet at Stanford University, California, yesterday.

With an eye on 2014 Commonwealth Games qualification, Brownlee competed for the win in Heat 2 throughout but was edged out on the home straight.

Despite the sub-29min time (he clocked a 29:07 10k to win the Olympics, see image above, despite walking down the finishing chute – and racing a 1.5km swim and 40km bike first), it was still short of the 27:30 time set by UKA as the qualifying time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Scotland next summer.
