Olympian Alex Yee has announced he will be targeting the London Marathon next year – and data from his training to date suggests he’ll be on for a stellar time.

Having seen success at both the Olympics and the triathlon World Champs it’s no surprise that Yee is hungry for new goals and his announcement via Instagram this week that he will be targeting the London Marathon in 2025 is one the triathlon world will follow with interest.

Known for his blistering run finishes, the post uploaded by Yee and The London Marathon shows him lacing up his trainers and taking to autumn trails, with the simple message ‘See Yee in London’ and the caption “Now to try something a bit different… #LondonMarathon | @newbalancerunning

Inside Yee’s training data

Thanks to Coros, we’ve been given access to some of Yee’s training data (pre-marathon specific training) which suggests even now that he could be predicted an epic time of 2 hours and 13 minutes in his debut.

This predicted time is based on his training following the Olympics and the World Champs. So with a marathon-specific training block to come, could he be even quicker come April?

Yee told us via Coros: “While my training week will still be structured similar to 2024, there will be a conscious shift to run more volume and do longer marathon specific sessions. Training will likely evolve as we see how I adapt – I’m excited to see what it entails!”

Thanks To Coros, you can access one of Alex Yee’s threshold triathlon training runs here to try out yourself and download to your Coros wearable.

Looking forward to racing

Yee also raced the Mini London Marathon five times during his junior career. Via the TCS London Marathon he had the following comments on his full-marathon debut.

“Committing to the TCS London Marathon for me was a no-brainer. It is an event that has given me so many memories. London Marathon day has been such a big part of my life growing up. I remember racing the Mini London Marathon multiple times as a young athlete and it was one of my biggest and most exciting races of the year. Taking part in a full marathon has always been an itch I’ve wanted to scratch and there isn’t any another place than London that I would want to start that journey.

“I will be focusing my training over the coming months on the marathon and am looking forward to seeing what I can do over the 26.2 miles. I am sure that once again the TCS London Marathon will include the best marathon runners from around the world and across the UK and I’m just looking forward to seeing how I fare in their company.”

Here at 220 we wish Alex all the best of luck with his training and will be talking to him soon about how it’s all progressing. Watch this space!
