Review: Castelli Free Sanremo SS tri-suit
A tad restrictive in the shoulders, but still a neat suit
This is Castelli’s Free Sanremo tri-suit with sleeves. Castelli say that the sleeves save nine watts on the bike at 40 km/h, a claim which we definitely can’t corroborate, but if you prefer sleeved to sleeveless, this will set you back just £10 more than the sleeveless version.
Being Castelli, fit is excellent, while the Kriss Tri pad provides plenty of saddle comfort. However, the sleeves make it feel more like a speed suit than a tri-suit, and despite the good fit it can’t help but feel more restrictive around the shoulders.
But the open jersey-style front is a neat – and very welcome in the summer heat – idea. Having the pockets on the side makes them easier to access than those in a bike jersey and they hold a decent amount despite the openings being quite small.
Overall, it’s a really nice suit, and sleeve length will come down to personal preference. You may well save nine watts with this one, but being comfortable will benefit you far more – so choose carefully.
