Huub TC Performance tri-suit review

Is the TC Performance the more budget-friendly Huub tri-suit you've been looking for? We put it to the test to find out...

Huub TC Performance tri-suit

Huub advertises the Triathlon Collective Performance tri-suit as having all-round, day-long comfort… and the brand may well be right, but is that enough for it to land a place on our list of the best tri-suits

Visually, I liked the black-and-rose colourway. Yes, it’s not as standout as some but it’s still an attractive female suit.

Design

The Huub TC Performance is an all-in-one tri suit constructed from a soft, breathable material that’s comfortable and lightweight.

The high-quality material is a good thickness around the shoulders with mesh underarm and side panels that really come into their own during the swim by allowing freedom of movement.

Long aerodynamic sleeves reach down to just above the elbow, while the legs are a good length, too.

The grippers around the sleeves and thigh perform well and keep the suit in place nicely.

Then there’s the quick-drying material that also provides compression to support muscles during the race while also allowing the freedom of movement.

Comfort and fit

Although the suit’s a relatively low price for a tri-suit, it’s well-constructed with strong seams ensuring that it can withstand the demands of regular training and racing.

It has a 3D triathlon-specific chamois, which is generous in size for cranked-up comfort on the bike, especially for longer triathlons.

Huub suggests it’d be good for short- to middle-distance triathlons and I’d agree. Reassuringly, the thicker chamois didn’t impact comfort on the run.

It has good rear aero pockets, making them easy and more comfortable to access from the side.

I’m a big fan of the side-access pockets. They’re comfortable to access and you can slip in and out at speed.

There’s not as much storage as the Van Rysel Triathlon LD and Tri-Fit Liberty, but they’re large enough to carry all the essentials.

This suit tested was small and was okay for a size 8-10 tester, suggesting that sizing’s a little more generous than some other brands, although a medium would have been a better fit.

The bottom line

Overall, this was the most expensive women’s suit on test (by 99p), but it’s a good beginner suit for women without breaking the bank and it offers a good overall performance.

For a higher-end option from Huub, take a look at the Anemoi 2 22Plus tri-suit.

220 Triathlon verdict

A high-quality suit that’s great for the beginner triathlete. Score: 83%

Pros

  • Material is supportive and dries quickly
  • Chamois pad proved comfy

Cons

  • Cheaper ‘budget’ options out there

About

Holly has always been a keen runner but she did her first 50-mile ultra in 2012 and has since completed several, including the Marathon des Sables in 2015. Following the birth of her two daughters, who are now her running buddies and biggest supporters, she completed a bucket- list Ironman and became hooked. This is now her training focus (with a few ultras thrown in) as she managed to win a Kona qualifying spot in 2022, so is heading back to Bolton in 2023 to try and win another.
