Sharkeye Tracker

If you want to get to the bottom of your swim limitations, or have aspirations of becoming a coach, then the Sharkeye could be for you. This standalone underwater camera lets you walk alongside a swimmer – pending approval from your pool – to capture their technique as well as being able to view the footage live on the bundled display.

The package is well put together, with an SD memory card included to make swapping of files a breeze. The whole unit weighs under a kilo and can be compacted down to kit-bag size. In use, however, it doesn’t deliver on this early promise.

The poor hydrodynamics make it difficult to keep a steady side shot and the relatively narrow angle on the lens means that you can’t view the entire length of the swimmer. As a result, the only practical use is for capture in front or behind. Also, the included software isn’t appropriate for analysis so you’ll need to invest in a professional biomechanics analysis package like Dartfish.
