Tri-Fit Rapid-X goggles review

The Rapix-X goggles may be Tri-Fit's first attempt at swimming goggles, but the brand has got a lot right here. Our full review explains why...

New goggles from a new brand is always something we like to see and such is the case with the Tri-Fit Rapid-X.

We’ve been familiar with the brand for several years now, with a handful of Tri-Fit’s products claiming a spot in our list of the best tri-suits.

Well, the brand has recently been branching out into different product lines, which is where the Rapid-X has emerged from. But could this new kid on the block make it into our list of the best swimming goggles?

These goggles were first tested at the start of 2024 as part of our pool goggles test, but have since also featured in the magazine’s open-water goggles test.

Both of those reviews were written by 220 Triathlon’s editor and open-water swim coach Helen Webster, but content editor Rob Slade has also been using the goggles since spring, so in this review you’ll be reading a combined verdict from both reviewers.

Design and lens performance

First thing you’ll notice about the Rapid-X goggles is the slightly unusual shape, which gives these a stylish and suitably race-ready look.

That’s further enhanced by the tinted and mirrored lenses. And it matters, right? We all want to look great in our kit.

Like the Speedo Biofuse 2.0 goggles, the tint used here is darker than many pool goggles, so whether you choose them for pool use comes down to personal preference.

For us, they performed fine indoors and, while they proved a little darker than dedicated clear lenses, we never had any issues with clarity.

These are goggles which dance on the line between traditional small goggles and larger open-water lenses, but range of visibility was superb.

The darker tint really comes into its own in the open water, too, especially when the sun comes out, though you’ll still have to squint if looking directly toward the sun.

Thankfully, the lenses come with UVA/UVB sun protection and yet they’re not too dark that you struggle to see on overcast days.

Fit and comfort

Fit was very good. We didn’t experience any fogging or leaks, plus the gaskets were soft and comfortable, even for longer swims.

Vitally, we never felt like we needed to stop or readjust the goggles mid-swim, either.

A double strap is easily adjusted via two chunky side clips and you also get a plastic case included to keep them safe.

All in, these are a stylish and quality new offering. Plus, that £30 ($40) price tag is very competitive indeed.

220 Triathlon verdict

We loved them in the pool and they were great in open water too – plus they look damn good for race day! Score: 91%
