Saucony Type A 2

The Type A is an out-and-out racing shoe. Starting with the upper, it has a degree of stretch in the materials, allowing for a snug fit without feeling restrictive.

And given the weight of the shoe – just under 200g – the cushioning is fairly effective with a soft feel. Of course, as the shoe is relatively minimal, it’s not going to offer a boat load of protection – it’s stable enough for neutral runners but there isn’t any specific medial support.

The overall ride of the shoe feels good with a smooth transition from heel to forefoot. The Type A also functions well with forefoot striking. This definitely falls into the serious racing shoe category but, for most people, will be one for the shorter distances.
