Review: Pearl Izumi EM Trail N1 running shoes
No airs or graces about these but they perform admirably. Good price too
Sometimes, what’s perceived as solid and dependable can actually be rather rousing. So it is with the N1s. That modesty starts with its looks, which is a rather passive black, yellow and green colour scheme.
There’s nothing staid about the fit, though, the foot nestling in neatly, and that’s partly down to the cushioned heel cup. The 7mm drop proffers a nice, smooth ride without unleashing the harsher feel of some more minimalist offerings.
Weight’s not bad, either, at 329g. A seamless, comfortable design is tarnished slightly by the tongue that caves in if you have narrow feet like this tester. But to be fair, that doesn’t affect ride.
A small but firm toe bumper lends a nod to rock protection, while the price is impressive. Overall, an understated shoe that’ll please many off-road fans.
