Pearl Izumi Syncro Fuel

Here’s a collection of ground-breaking technologies packaged in a strong, attractive design. The Syncro Fuels benefit from several own-brand features, such as a new 1:1 Energy Foam, which cushions the foot on impact before returning the energy to the runner for a snug, confidence-inspiring ride.

A further stand-out aspect is the wide lacing configuration – it’s supremely adjustable and forgiving to all foot shapes and sizes. The platform’s pleasantly broad and although the outsole is without bells and whistles, it’s not fazed by a variety of terrains.

One minor niggle, if there is to be one, is the slab of cushioning in the highly contoured forefoot. It’s a tad too thick and inhibits ideal road feel, but transitional response is still excellent. This supports a fast cadence forefoot strike as well as the more tired midfoot that often plagues the race end. For lazy days or hill sessions, the proprietary heel cushioning is also superb.
