New Balance Garmin 890V3

A ride this good for under £80 is damn impressive

For the third year, New Balance is the official off-bike shoe of Team Garmin-Sharp and to celebrate such an occasion they’ve released a Garmin-branded version of their neutral V3 (also available in different designs).

Looks-wise, it’s a near-duplicate of Brooks’ Glycerin 11 and performs as impressively, too, eliciting comfort and encouraging propulsion at whatever speed you’re running.

That’s in no small part thanks to NB’s REVlite midsole that’s of medium rigidity and allegedly 30% lighter than most midsoles (the shoe comes in at an impressive 267g).

Consequently it achieved a handsome balance of feeling like a race shoe with the stability of a high-miler.

The only moot point is around the heel entrance and sides, which feel a touch too cushioned and claustrophobic for our minimal tastes. Overall, though, a cracking shoe at a superb price point.
