New Balance 860

This latest version of the 860 is a no-nonsense stability shoe for mild to mid overpronators who are looking for a generous slab of cushioning. The initial feel is great thanks to the plush, sumptuous lining, high-quality upper materials and solid overall construction.

The styling is fairly classic with technical features that, although hardly at the vanguard of cutting-edge design, deliver on core functionality. The platform is wide and the mid-foot stability is robust and effective.

Thanks to the high levels of cushioning (and the high-density medial post in particular) the running feel is somewhat dull and not conducive to a high cadence. But for heavier athletes this compromise of less bang in the bounce will be welcomed.

With the brand’s Ndurance outsole it’ll also be great for high milers and anyone who’s limited to road running but keen to protect their joints.
