Inov-8 Roclite 312GTX

The ‘312’ refers to the weight of a UK size 8 and, although our UK 10 weighs 348g, that’s still light for a trail shoe. From a company that specialises in off-road shoes, the Roclites have a more off-roader feel and look than the other contenders.

Despite employing Inov-8’s highest level of cushioning, the shoe retains a good degree of flexibility and, once on, doesn’t feel at all clumpy.

We’re still undecided on waterproof outers for trail shoes, as although they do a great job of keeping your feet dry most of the time, run into a puddle and you’ve got a pair of personal paddling pools. That’s a minor moot point, though, as we breezed through both loops.

It even performed on more technical terrain, the square studs offering ample grip and the trail feedback superb. However, with the soft, sticky rubber sole, don’t spend too long on the road.
