Asics Gel Stratus 3

Likely to appeal to neutral runners who tend to run on their toes, the Stratus 3 is the kind of shoe that you can put on straight out of the box and hit the tarmac.

They provide good cushioning, a snug fit and acceptable flexibility. They don’t shout and wave; they just, in an understated way, allow you to run.

The toe box is wide enough for all but the widest foot; there’s ample amount of support for the heel which slots in snugly; and the cushioning allows you to drive off easily from the toes.

Asics claim that the shoe provides stability, which of course they do; they’re just not ideal for runners who require that extra bit of support. But then if you’re a mild pronator – or don’t pronate at all – then you’ll happily log in plenty of miles in the Stratus 3.
