Pearl Izumi Elite Infinity

Surely with running shorts, a bargain bin pair will serve you as well as a pair costing £45? Maybe for a few kms, but as runs get longer and especially if you’re targeting long-course races, for guaranteed comfort, zero chaffing and good fit, that extra spend is a prudent move.

These shorts from Pearl Izumi certainly justify their price. Length is perfect; not retro fell runner short but far from baggy. The decent stretch drawcord won’t annoyingly dissappear into the shorts and gives a great fit around the waist.

The integrated Float liner is supportive and, to quote Alan Partridge, keeps the “boys in the barracks”. It also wicks extremely well, significantly reducing the chaffing risk. The two hook and loop front pockets each just about fit a gel and the two zippered rear pockets mean no lost keys.

You know a great pair of running shorts when, on a 3hr run, you’re not aware of them, and that’s definitely the case with these.
