Garmin FR60

One of our favourite phrases is ‘keep it simple’ and the FR60 does just that: it’s simple to set up, simple to use and simple to look at. If all you’re after is reliability, a high specification and a solid database for recording all of your training efforts, then you’ll really struggle to find a much better solution.

The watch-style design makes it an everyday solution and, for this price, we struggled to find any major faults. Obviously it doesn’t have the extensive list of features of its big brother the XT310, but the features that are available are excellent.

The foot pod (included for £30 extra), for example, is the smallest we’ve seen outside of Nike’s Plus unit, but it’s still compatible with any of your chosen footwear. The accuracy is surprisingly high out of the box, and is certainly proof that this type of technology has made leaps and bounds in recent years.

The heart rate belt included is a bit bog-standard, but with ANT+ the communication is constant and precise.
