iPod Shuffle

The baby of the market-leading iPod family, the stamp-sized, 1GB Shuffle is designed as a no-frills, no-fuss way of bunging some music in your ears while you’re on the move. And there’s the rub: the lack of an LCD or all but the most basic playback controls (there’s no EQ, for instance) mean this won’t suit everyone. But for training purposes, it’s in many ways ideal: it’s tiny, it weighs nothing and it comes with a satisfyingly sturdy-feeling clip that’ll fix onto your shorts/top easily and securely.

Sound quality is great, and the supplied earbuds aren’t too bad either, though they can get a little uncomfy after extended wear. The Shuffle also has the advantage of full iTunes integration, plus there’s a neat ‘Autofill’ function with which you can load the player with a random selection of music when you connect to your computer.
