Bell Ghisallo

Bell has been making helmets for longer than most and the 314g Ghisallo is a fully-fledged, high-performance, high-protection helmet.

The big dial-adjust ‘GPS’ cradle gives a super-secure feel straight away and the deep shell drops right down over your ears for a real feeling of enhanced protection. Three shell sizes also mean an accurate basic fit, rather than relying on the cradle too much.

An internal skeleton holds the helmet together if you take a dive; this also lets Bell use much bigger vents. The rear exhaust ports are vast and, while internal channelling is limited, there’s a spoiler extension at the rear to encourage the best air flow here. It’s certainly enough to create a noticeable cooling.

On the downside, there’s no peak option and the deep shell makes it one of the heavier helmets. It also intrudes on the top of your peripheral vision. But it’s still a great pot for the price if your neck can handle it.
