ICB Performance AC50 wheels
Quick and controllable, these are superb do-it-all wheels
Carbon/aluminium clinchers tick all the right boxes. You get the aero benefits of a deep-section carbon wheel, the trustworthy braking of an aluminium rim, and the ability to fix flats easily at the roadside.
The AC50 wheelset uses what ICB Performance call a ‘bullet’ profile. Instead of a flat-sided V shape, the wheels’ 50mm profile has a rounder nose and bulging sides to better cope with crosswinds.
The wheels certainly feel faster than their low-profile rivals. The bullet-shaped cross-section doubtlessly helps, but so too do the smooth-spinning hubs, bladed spokes and light weight (1,590g on the 220 scales without cassette, QRs, tyres and tubes).
There’s stability, too; crosswinds gently nudge at them rather than snatch. These wheels have clincher convenience, but, more importantly, have the braking and crosswind control to match their speed.
