Gipiemme Tecno

Undoubtedly these Gipimme wheels are very eye-catching, but sadly they wouldn’t be our first choice for winter work. The deep 40mm section, with its widely spaced, paired aero spokes and overall matt-black finish certainly stands out in the crowd, and they hold speed well.

However, as the only wheelset here over 2kg, they take some effort to get going, and they’re noticeably the most ‘gusty’ and harshest feeling wheels here. We had no trouble ?with the tightly laced 16/16 front/rear spoking, though, and they handled heavier riders and rougher roads fine. The metal shrouded bearings stayed sweet, too, and the freehub (Campagnolo or Shimano available) runs ?almost silent.

Aside from the weight and potentially uncomfortable stiffness, you’ll also need an extended valve inner tube or an extender pipe, which aren’t the easiest things to work with cold winter hands.
