Helly Hansen Stripe Crew Graphic

It could be argued that Helly Hansen is one of the forefathers of base-layer construction. You might think, therefore, that this top would wipe the floor with the competition. Sadly not…

Helly Hansen have not tried to hide the fact that this is a revamp of their classic line and the basic performance is still strong – but this is a strange-looking top. We admit that this makes no difference to thermal performance, but not one of our testers was willing to trial this in daylight!

Another more important issue is the cut, which is too traditional and demonstrates that little thought has been given to seam placement. The result is discomfort under the arms that is particularly noticeable when riding. The basic fabric performance is fine, however, and the thermal properties are excellent.
