Cardiff Triathlon introduces new middle-distance race for 2022
The iconic race in the Welsh capital has a new 'Legend' distance on offer for endurance lovers...
A popular race on the triathlon calendar for the past six years, the iconic Cardiff Triathlon is set to include a half-iron distance option in 2022.
Along with the supersprint, sprint and Olympic distance options normally available to race, organisers Always Aim High Events have added a ‘Legend’ distance for the 2022 race for those looking for a more endurance-focussed feat.
The new Legend event will be the first middle-distance triathlon in Cardiff and will give competitors the exclusive opportunity to swim 1.9km in Cardiff Bay, before heading to transition situated on the infamous Roald Dahl Plass amphitheatre.
Unusually for Wales, the 90km bike course aims to be a flat and fast affair, which will initially follow closed roads out of the city centre, before rolling onto open roads heading east through Cardiff’s industrial heritage and the Wentlooge flatlands, and then venturing toward the neighbouring city of Newport.
Returning to the capital, the half-marathon run will take place on a spectator-lined lapped route in the central Cardiff Bay area, culminating in a sprint finish along Bute Place to the world-famous Wales Millennium Centre.
Nigel Kendrick, Managing Director at Always Aim High Events, said: “We are incredibly excited to be able to introduce this new middle-distance triathlon at our Cardiff event. After what has been an unprecedented couple of years for the events industry we are keen to showcase the growth of Triathlon, particularly in Wales, and where better than the capital city.”
When is the Cardiff Triathlon taking place?
The supersprint, sprint, Olympic and middle-distance races will all take place on 26 June 2022.
