Zwift announces series of events to celebrate Pride
Virtual training company Zwift has announced a new event series celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride On will take place across the month of June and here's what you need to know.
Zwift has announced a new event series called Pride On to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. It’ll be running throughout the month of June with rides and runs taking place almost daily.
As part of the series, there will be live group workouts for athletes to take part in every Wednesday, as well as on-demand sessions for Zwifters. This series will be part of a larger push to regularly celebrate the community throughout the year, with other days lined up including World AIDS Day and National Coming Out Day.
On Sunday 13 June there will be rides and runs throughout the day dedicated to TogetheRIDE. The collective aim is to move 1.2million miles to honour the 1.2 million people in the US living with HIV, while there will also be a fundraising goal of five million US dollars for the cause.
Completing a ‘Pride On’ ride or run activity on Zwift will help to unlock the 2021 Pride On kit. Some of the activities will even be run by prominent members of the Zwift LGBTQIA+ community. These include American mountain biker and Olympian Lea Davison, pro trail runner Abby Levene, three-time UCI BMX World Champion Shanaze Reade and American triathlete Chris Mosier.
Zwift’s Pride On event series has been created in partnership with Athlete Ally, a charitable organisation that campaigns for more inclusivity in the sporting world. “Zwift continues to be a leader in inclusivity in sport and we are excited to partner for the third year,” says Hudson Taylor, Founder & Executive Director of Athlete Ally. “Beyond June, we’ll be working together to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community throughout the year, and to further the message of equal access, opportunity and experience in sport.”
“I’m excited to celebrate Pride Month at Zwift and actively support our LGBTQIA+ community – both in the game and on our teams,” says Lisa Bourne, Senior Director, Diversity, Inclusion & Social Impact at Zwift.
