Iceland’s Jarnmadurinn Triathlon 2015 – in pics

Bracing waters and windy conditions on the bike couldn’t dissuade more than fifty hardy triathletes from taking on Iceland’s first middle-distance race last weekend, the Jarnmadurinn Triathlon.

Temperatures in the freshwater glacial lake Medalfellsvatn were a nippy 13°C – and closer to 8°C near the river at the start.

Australia’s two-time Ironman world champion Chris McCormack led out of the swim with a split of 27:17mins, and also biked very well on the hilly 90km bike course, finishing it in 2:38:45.

Macca pulled out of the run, citing the cold and an Achilles issue, leaving the door wide open for Britain’s Nick Saunders to storm through and win by nearly ten minutes.
