220 Evening Series: race three
Last night saw round three of our evening series. (And yes – it was damp!)
The third race in the 220 Evening Triathlon Series at Dorney Lake took place in very unseasonal conditions on 29 July.
Wet and windy weather was not enough to put off over 230 avid racers who took part in the sprint-distance event, which is the third race in a series of four taking place at the Windsor venue throughout the summer.
The race went off in three different wave starts to avoid congestion on the course and allow those who couldn’t sneak away from work early to get there in time.
After a windy day it was noticeable that the trees stopped waving as the racers entered the water for the first wave, making for much better racing conditions than might have otherwise been expected.
It is always a challenge to get under the hour for a sprint event and it was Kieron Lewis who got closest at this race, posting a time of 1:02:05, just a few seconds ahead of Veteran winner Mauris Kwint in second and Angus Whitfield in third.
Carolyn Hewitt was the first lady in, comfortably ahead of Fay Cripps in second and Sandra Blenkinsopp (first lady vet) in third.
The female junior race was won by Amy Jones and young William Johnston was the first male youth.
As if by magic, and just in time for the clear up operation the wind and rain came back with avengence – having stayed dry for the majority of the race!
The final event in the series is on 26 August, and you can click here to see full details and enter online now.
