Lucy Charles-Barclay announces new 2021 bike sponsor
Professional triathlete and three-time world champs silver medallist, Lucy Charles-Barclay has announced her signing with German brand, CUBE for her 2021 season.
Known for its cyclocross prowess, CUBE seems to be building its elite triathlete portfolio in the hopes of securing the sport’s top contenders for gold at Kona and other big profile races this season.
In terms of bike selection, Barclay-Charles will be on the Litening C:68X for her road bike and the Aerium C:68 as her non-draft racing bike. Components will also include DT Swiss wheels and Schwalbe tubeless tyres; further specifics have not yet been finalised and will largely be up to Barclay-Charles’ preference.
This new signing sees her move away from Specialized this year along with several other athletes. Charles-Barclay says: “It was definitely time to find a new bike. It’s always been performance over anything else for me. Everyone who works in this company is just super passionate, even the most small things are being tested, trialled, progressed every single day to make sure that that when I come to race I’m going to be on the fastest bike possible.”

How Lucy Charles-Barclay fuels her races
CUBE’s founder and owner, Marcus Pürner, is delighted with the new signing and explains how it is part of a new direction for CUBE: “Kona and Ironman Hawaii remain hugely popular events in Germany. Our athletes have already produced some incredible results there in the last few years. We took the strategic decision to elevate our sponsorship activities across all disciplines to a new level and Lucy joins our existing triathletes as a top contender for gold. This move not only positions our triathlon product portfolio as a benchmark-setter in aerodynamics, but it also means we can offer our customers top-quality bikes tested by the pros themselves.”
Other athletes already with CUBE include the likes of pros Danny Hart, Frederic Funk and Florian Angert. Find out more on Charles-Barclay’s CUBE collaboration.
Lucy has also announced she will also be using DT Swiss wheels.
“There are so many things that draw me to the DT Swiss wheels,” says Lucy, “but top of my list has to be the aerodynamics especially in variable winds of Kona. Every time I ride on them I feel happy knowing that they are super reliable and I can just ride them hard and get every ounce of extra propulsion they give me. They also look so super cool which makes me smile every time I see my bike ready for me to ride. I look forward to using them in the heat of battle soon.”
