The first Cotswold Standard Distance Triathlon was held at the Cotswold Water Park last weekend, and attracted nearly 200 competitors for the 1500m swim/40k bike/10k run.

The race started in pleasant and warm conditions. First out of the swim was Ciaran Alstowe in a time of 19:51mins, followed by Mike Milstead of Calne SmarTT in 20:24mins, with Bob Pearce out in third in 20:26mins. First lady on to the bike was Marianne Scott in 22:48mins.

It was then on to the flat fast bike course, which lent itself towards a PB and featured some of the most stunning scenery the Cotswolds has to offer. First back off the bike was Milstead who set the fastest bike split of the day in 57:54mins, narrowly beating Steve Yates who came into transition second with a bike time of 58:08mins, with Alstowe back in to T2 in third place.

First lady back was Vickie Wilkinson followed by Carolyn Criak and Amy Bentley from local club the Flying Monks.

Onto the three-lap closed road run and it was Milstead out front, though he was coming under pressure from Yates. Despite Yates’s speed, Milstead hung on to take the win, finishing in a time of 1:58:19, with Yates coming home second in 1:58:37 and Alstowe taking third in 2:03:19.

First lady home was Vickie WIlksinson, taking the win in 2:18:59 from Amy Bentley, with Victoria Plume coming home third. In the other categories, Ian Barrett took the Male Vet prize and Laura Croker the first Female Vet. The Male SupVet category was won by Richard Cooper with Carolyn Craik coming home first in the ladies.
