Third edition of gruelling point-to-point Scottish triathlon won by local athlete Marie Meldrum and Sweden’s Johan Hasselmark, with 150 athletes taking part overall

One of the UK’s most challenging point-to-point triathlons took place in the Scottish Highlands last weekend, with more than 150 athletes racing the third edition of the Celtman Extreme Scottish Triathlon.

It started at dawn on Saturday 28 June with a 3km open-water swim in Loch Sheildaig, followed by a 202km bike leg along some of the most dramatic roads in the region, finishing with a 42km off-road run over two ‘Munros’ (Scottish Hills over 3000 feet high).

The men’s race was won by Sweden’s Johan Hasselmark, who smashed the previous course record by 28mins to finish in 11:41:30, while local athlete Marie Meldrum crossed the line 33mins ahead of her nearest rival in 14:22:36.
