Quarq lowers power meter prices
Power meters will now be sold as a chassis only, including crank arms, power meter spider and chainring bolts – but no chainrings
SRAM has opted to make its Quarq power meters available as a chassis only (without chainrings), enabling it to cut prices and offer more configuration options.
The chassis includes carbon fibre crank arms, power meter spider and chainring bolts, and is compatible with a range of 10-speed, 11-speed or 1X chainrings:
SRAM RED 22 Quarq chassis – GXP: £1,199
SRAM RED 22 Quarq chassis – BB30: £1,249
Quarq ELSA R chassis – GXP: £1,199
Quarq ELSA R chassis – BB30: £1,249
Quarq RIKEN R chassis – GXP: £899
Quarq RIKEN R chassis – BB30: £949
The price of a complete crankset now seems to have been reduced: as an example, the complete SRAM RED 22 GXP Quarq crankset previously cost £1,599, but now costs £1,199 as a chassis only, or £1,224 with SRAM RED 22 chainrings.
These new prices place it on more of a par with German brand Power2Max (review here) than the likes of SRM and Garmin (though admittedly the latter uses a completely different pedal-mounted system to the others – review here).
