Irish triathlete Aileen Reid is to receive an extra €20k in funding from the Irish Sports Council this year, after delivering Ireland’s best ever triathlon result when she secured silver in the World Triathlon Series Grand Final in London last September.

Reid has been chosen to receive the top level of funding this year, moving up from ‘World Class’ level of €20,000 in 2013 to ‘Podium’ level of €40,000 in 2014. Other triathletes benefitting from ISC funding this year are Bryan Keane and Ben Shaw, who both get €12k.

Triathlon Ireland named Reid Irish Athlete of the Year at their annual awards dinner last November, while other winners included age-groupers Kevin Thornton from Belpark TC in Dublin and Anna Crooks from GoTri TC in Clare.
