Given the current trend for the nation’s grandest country houses to host a triathlon, it should come as little surprise that perhaps the grandest of them all – Chatsworth House in Derbyshire – is hosting the new Peak District Triathlon this July.
The event will take place on Sunday 13 July and offer sprint and standard distance races for around 1,000 competitors. The sprint race will start with a 750m swim in the river Derwent, followed by a 10.5km bike ride across the Peak District countryside, followed by a 5km run the estate parkland. The standard distance race consists of a 1000m swim followed by a 39km cycle leg and a 10km run.
““This event features some stunning picture book scenery, and with it including a sprint distance race it is accessible for triathletes of all levels,” said race director Simon Hill. “A triathlon at Chatsworth is the perfect opportunity to combine taking part in an iconic race with having a family day out and exploring the Peak District.”
Entry costs are £62/£57 (standard/sprint) for individual entries or £75 for team relay entries. For more info head to www.xtramileevents.com.
