Fishguard to host qualifying race for Ocean Lava worlds in 2014

Activity Wales Events have today confirmed that The Wales Triathlon in Fishguard will be the location of a World Qualifier for the Ocean Lava Middle-distance Championships in 2014.

Fishguard’s 2nd of August race will line up alongside Madrid, Gran Canaria and Denmark, with a potential of Hong Kong, Holland and the Ukraine being added to the series list later in the year. 24 athletes will qualify for the Ocean Lava Grand Final in Lanzarote, to be held on 8 November 2014.

Matthew Evans of Activity Wales, who was fundamental in creating Ironman Wales, says: “Pembrokeshire is the perfect destination for a world-class middle-distance race and we have pushed hard not only to drive quality of experience for athletes and supporters at races, but also value. I truly believe the triathlon world is looking for a new brand to fall in love with.

“Pembrokeshire has really embraced our races and it gives us all enormous pleasure to bring this new series to North Pembrokeshire.”

Scott Powell of Activity Wales events adds, “Ocean Lava Wales will have a very fast swim and bike course, but the run will be tough. Our courses always reward every discipline and Fishguard will be no different. The winners will be athletes that are strong in all three disciplines, not so much a master of one.
