Ironman Boulder changes route due to recent flooding

New run course to be announced next month

This year’s Ironman Boulder is to get a new route due to the devastating flooding which hit the US multisport mecca last September.

Writing on the sold-out event’s official Facebook Page, organiser Dave Christen said: “As you all know we had some pretty devastating impact on our bike and run course due to the flooding we had in Sept.

“The bike course at this point looks to be ok and I think we will be able to go with the original announced course. However, a lot can change and we may need to adjust. The run course however will need to change.”

The organisers hope to announce a new run route by the end of February, according to Christen, who adds that the race will still be taking place in August, as changing the date is “not really an option”.

Our features editor Matt Baird visited Boulder last year and found that, despite the flooding, it remained “twenty-five square miles of multisport facilities surrounded by some of the world’s best routes”. Order a copy of issue 294 for his full report.
