Joyce wins Ironman Cozumel

Victory in Mexico for British athlete

Rachel Joyce

Britain’s Rachel Joyce capped off a fantastic 2014 season with victory at Ironman Cozumel last weekend, crossing the line in 8:52:28.

She faced strong competition from Amanda Stevens (US), who led out of the water and throughout the 180km bike leg, before eventually capitulating to Joyce in the first 5km of the run.

Fellow American Jessie Donavan put in a strong run to come in second in 9:01:12, while Stevens came third in 9:06:40.

In the men’s race, Michael Weiss (AUT) was on dominant form after being out of racing for two years with a doping ban, crossing the line in 7:55:23, followed by Tyler Butterfield (US) in 8:02:42 and Spain’s Eneko Llanos in 8:05:21.
