Fit & Healthy Pregnancy

Inspirational reading for pregnant and soon-to-be-pregnant athletes

At first glance, Fit & Healthy Pregnancy is a thick, text-dense book with no photos, just black-and-white illustrations.

But on closer inspection it’s well laid-out, easy to read and full of balanced, practical information about every aspect of health and exercise before, during and after pregnancy.

The authors, both runners and mothers, are a coach and obstetrician respectively, so the information is reassuringly scientific and current, albeit with American terminology.

For each stage it covers physical changes, nutrition, appropriate sessions for swim, bike, run and strength work, plus advice about when to reduce or stop training.

It also tackles the mental side, suggesting how to stay positive and healthy when things don’t go to plan.

The overall tone is upbeat and encouraging to all levels, talking to the reader as both a pregnant woman and an athlete training for the longest endurance event there is.

You wouldn’t need any other pregnancy books if you had this on your shelf.
